'Amy Lea' |
D616 is named ‘Amy Lea’ after one of the survivors from the passenger liner ‘Lusitania’ that was sunk by a German torpedo in May 1915 off Southern Ireland.
The official naming ceremony by the daughter of the late Amy Lea was held on the 7th May 2004. The D616 replaced D476 'CORYDD' in Febuary 2004

The new IL 1 inshore lifeboat was first introduced in 2003 with only a few in service with the RNLI around our coast. The new boat has a 50hp outboard engine
giving a top speed of 25 knots and carries a crew of 3, length 4.95m, beam 2m, construction; FRC structure with Hypalon coated polyester boat fabric. |

engine is a 50hp Mariner. |

ILB' CORYDD' D476 was placed into service at New Quay on Wednesday 3rd May 1995.
The lifeboat was provided by proceeds from a concert held at St Paul's Cathedral to mark the 60th
Anniversary of Sinclair, Roche & Temperly, London, and the centenary of the City of London
RNLI Branch. The D class is placed at many stations around our coastline and ideal for working
in shallow water's and close to cliff's. Lifeboat Stations in this part of West Wales that have
a D Class are to the south Cardigan, Fishguard and to the north Borth and Barmouth. Corydd was
officially replaced on the 7th February 2004 by the new IB1 inshore D616. |
"D Class" No D122 inshore lifeboat was first introduced into service at New Quay back in 1967
for working close to the cliffs and shore line an area where the All Weather Lifeboats are unable
to work safely. Constructed of Nylon coated with Hypalon the D Class has an overall length of 4.9m
(16ft in old money) and had a crew of 3. Powered by a 40hp outboard engine, a top speed of 20 knots
and 3hrs endurance also VHF radio, portable search light and first aid equipment. It was launched
from a trolley (man handled from the boathouse). |
