Big search for father and son
A big search by HM Coastguards, Mountain Rescue, Lifeboats and police was launched on Sunday evening (13 April) when a father and his 9-year-old son went missing from New Quay. Both lifeboats were launched at 2300hrs to search the area along the coast whilst S.A.R helicopter from RAF Valley searched the coastal area as well as the countryside around New Quay. Police had earlier found the man’s car, which suggested the pair were in the area. The lifeboat search was call off in the earlier hours of Monday morning after searching the coastal area for over 2 hours, the man and his son were found later all safe and sound.

New Quay Memorial Hall Closure
The future of New Quay Memorial Hall looks very uncertain after Ceredigion County Council announced plans to sell
the hall off, as they can no longer afford to run and maintain it. A meeting was held on Tuesday evening with local
residents and council officials to consider the future of the hall, at the moment its looking very likely that the hall will
close. People in New Quay are planning to run the hall instead of the Council and have decided to form a committee.
The hall is used regularly for the last 11yrs as a dance school, snooker and various other activities.
The Council is trustee for the hall when they required ownership in 1996; the hall was constructed pre 1900’s.
If the council decide to sell the property it will be placed on the open market.

Hands off our Scallops!
Scallop fishing has been banned in parts of Cardigan Bay as fears grow to the damage its doing to the seabed.
A three-mile restriction zone has been placed on an area 12 miles along the Ceredigion coast. Over recent years there
has been a big increase in scallop fishing between New Quay and Cardigan with fishing boats coming from as far as
Scotland, Ireland, Devon and Cornwall.
The ban will be in place until 1st November when it will be reviewed. Fisheries officer Mr Martin Boyce with
North Western Sea Fisheries Committee has said that a number of vessels authorised to work the area has increased
from 3 to 34 in recent years .

O2 Mast Protest
Mobile phone company O2 have erected a 15m mast in the village without gaining planning permission from Ceredigion County Council, and local residents are up in arms.
Up to 12 protesters campaigned as the mast was erected last Wednesday. A Glyn Griffiths (whoever he is) has said that O2 are riding roughshod over the concerns of local residents by putting up the mast without planning permission.
Ceredigion County Council said that they refused approval for the mast last year but O2 have stated that the Council didn’t reply within the 56-day deadline to its application and consent was granted by default.
A Ceredigion spokesperson has said they are looking into the issue and would comment no further on the issue. Planning permission for the mast was refused last year a spokeswoman added.
Looking back, I believe Ceredigion County Council did something of the same a while back, building their offices without planning permission, but there you go, they are the council ain’t they.

Rural 'Post Office' Closure's.
A treat of closure is hanging over 13 rural post office in areas of Mid-Wales which includes Ceredigion .
This decision comes close on the heal’s of 29 Post Office closures in area’s of Cardiff, Bridgend, Vale of Glamorgan and Valley’s.
Its all very well these political big wigs saying shut these post offices but do they actually know where some of these
offices are? Many old people in Mid-Wales are unable to travel to the bigger towns to either collect their pension’s,
get stamps or post letters etc. The Welsh Assembly Members should step in on this subject, start earning that 8.33%
rise you’ve given your self’s. Essex County Council are to subsidise some of there rural Post Office wage for
closure over the next 3 year’s so why not do the same for our Post Office’s, ear-marked so AM-eers put some
through into this or does thinking come as an optional extra or under expences.
