The Centre Opening times are 9am until 5pm, seven days a
week. During the summer holidays we will be open until 6pm.
The Marine Wildlife Centre at New Quay monitors the local dolphin
population along the Ceredigion coast. Not only does the centre monitor
dolphins it is also involved with university students studying in the marine
environment. Observations of dolphins are carried out from the land, at sea
along the coast, and also offshore. The Bottlenose Dolphins are frequent
visitors along this coast throughout the year as is the Harbour Porpoises.
Survey's have revealed that up to 200+ live within the Cardigan Bay area.
The old coastguard lookout above Birds Rock was restored in 2001 to
become the Cardigan Bay lookout.

Daily Marine Sightings
The coast line between New Quay and Cardigan Island has aways been noted for its marine wildlife. Back in 1991 when a petition from local people called
for a voluntary marine project be established involving the local authority.
Today it is recognised from Europe as being a Special Area of Conservation.
There are two groups, the voluntary Marine Heritage Coast and the statutory Cardigan SAC who have observation areas along the coast
monitoring the dolphin and porpoise population. The Atlantic Grey Seals also breed in small coves giving birth to there young from late summer.


 

The Marine Wildlife Centre can be found above
the Lifeboat Stn at Glanmor Terrace, open daily
from Easter until late summer. Entry to the centre is free!

Our Visitor Centre Our Visitor Centre Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre Staffed by volunteers,
our visitor centre is free to enter and is open seven days a week between April and November.
It was refurbished in 2008 with grant aid from the Countryside Council for Wales and Awards for
All Wales (Big Lottery Fund). The facilities include interpretative and interactive displays
showcasing the huge variety of marine wildlife found in Cardigan Bay, including an aquarium
full of rock pool species. There’s also a gift shop area so that you can take home a souvenir
of your time here.
