population along the Ceredigion coast. Not only does the centre monitor
dolphins it is also involved with university students studying in the marine
environment. Observations of dolphins are carried out from the land, at sea
along the coast, and also offshore. The Bottlenose Dolphins are frequent
visitors along this coast throughout the year as is the Harbour Porpoises.
Survey's have revealed that up to 100+ live within the Cardigan Bay area.
The old coastguard lookout above Birds Rock was restored in 2001 to
become the Cardigan Bay lookout.

The coast line between New Quay and Cardigan Island has aways been noted for its marine wildlife. Back in 1991 when a petition from local people called
for a voluntary marine project be established involving the local authority.
Today it is recognised from Europe as being a Special Area of Conservation.
There are two groups, the voluntary Marine Heritage Coast and the statutory Cardigan SAC who have observation areas along the coast
monitoring the dolphin and porpoise population. The Atlantic Grey Seals also breed in small coves giving birth to there young from late summer.

The Marine Wildlife Centre can be found above
the Lifeboat Stn at Glanmor Terrace, open daily
from Easter until late summer. Entry to the centre is free!
