Built of reinforced composite the Mersey has a overall length of 11.58m,
beam 3.81m and a displacement of 14tons. The power comes from twin
CAT3208T diesels giving a top cruising speed of 16 knots(20mph) and a
range of 162.5 nautical miles. Duration at sea is 10.6 hours, fuel
239.5 gallons being held in twin tanks, the steering is all hydraulic.
There are two steering position, one aft and one in the boxy like water tight wheelhouse. Navigational aids are, JRC Radar which has just been
updated from the old Decca Radar, VHF(MW) radio, this covers
a longer range, VHF radio telephone, directional finding unit,
GPS (ground position satellite), depth sounder and most
important..the tea pot.
