The days trip observed 3 Harbour Porpoises near to Cwmtydu. Seals (female)seen along the coast getting ready to bring there cubs into the world from around September time. Saturday 24 July Land based sightings Various size pods of Bottlenose Dolphins seen during the days survey, observers sighted in the region of 16+ Dolphins. Many foraging out in the bay between the Fish Factory and Reef Marker. 1 Atlantic Grey Seal(female) by the main pier. Friday 23 July Survey boat. 2 Bottlenose Dolhins and 11 Atlantic Grey Seals. All sightings around the Cwmtydu and Trwyn Crou area. Thursday 22 July. Land based sightings. 2 Bottlenose Dolphins seen foraging out near the fish factory, 1 Atlantic Grey Seal along side the main pier. Thursday 22 July. Survey boat. 2 Bottlenose Dolphins foraging near to Trwyn Crou with Gannets seen feeding nearby. 1 female Atlantic Grey Seal at Ynys-Lochtyn, also another 2 female seal between Cwmtydu and Trwyn Crou. 3 Bottlenose Dolphins seen near to Cwmtydu (perfect opportunity for us to photo-id), 3 Bottlenose Dolphins towards Carreg Draenog. Wednesday 21 July. Land based sightings. 3 Bottlenose Dolphins appeared just after 9.00am out by the reef marker, one leaving just after 10.00am. 4 Dolphins sighted around 12.15pm moving across the bay towards the reef marker. 1 Atlantic Grey Seal by the main pier. During the afternoon 4 Dolphins seen foraging out in the bay for food, at 1630pm a mother and calf seen out by the reef marker. Wednesday 21 July. Survey boat. 4 Bottlenose Dolphins, 1 Harbour Porpoise and 11 Atlantic Grey Seals observed 3x 2hr trips. All Dolphin sightings between Ynys Lochtyn and Trwyn Crou foraging, Atlantic Grey Seals, all around the Cwmtydu and Castell Bach area, all in the water. Tuesday 20 July. Land based sightings. 5 Bottlenose Dolphins seen in the bay during the morning survey, 1 calf with its mother amongst this small pod. Another small pod 5 Bottlenose Dolphins seen during the afternoon staying close to the reef marker, with this small group a mother and calf thought to be the same pair from the morning sighting was with this group. Tuesday 20 July. Survey boat. 6 Bottlenose Dolphins and 2 Atlantic Grey Seals seen on this short survey. 6 Dolphins which incules a new born near to New Quay Harbour, all foraging and milling around. 2 AGS seen sighted just off Castell Bach. Monday 19 July. Survey boat. 5 Atlantic Grey Seals and 1 Harbour Porpoise seen on this survey. The Porpoise seen near to Carreg Draenog accompanied with diving Kittiwakes 3 Female AGS just off the coast at Trwyn Crou, other sightings near to Cwmtydu. Monday 19 July. Land based sightigs. 4 Bottlenose Dolphins in two small groups of two sighted out by the fish factory. First group foraging for food, second group which includes a mother and young calf thought to be about 14 days old, again all foraging for food. Sunday 18 July. Land based sightings. 15+ Bottlenose Dolphins observed throughout the survey from the main pier, these include 1 calf and 1 juvenile. The marine centre said that the calf had been seen throughout last week in and around the bay area. Sunday 18 July. Survey boat. 2 Bottlenose Dolphins sighted off the head during a very short trip of just over an hour, these animals may have been observed by the shore crew earlier. Saturday 17 July. Survey boat. 7 Bottlenose Dolphins including 1 calf sighted all animals seen off the head. Saturday 17 July. Land based sightings. First reports were as the survey boat sightings with all animals seen from the main pier. During the afternoon further sighting of animals were very good with up to 17+ dolphins seen in various size pods all foraging for prey. Friday 16 July. Land based sightings. 10+ Bottlenose Dolphins and 1 Atlantic Grey Seal seen in the bay. First sighting was of a mother and calf they gave visitors a good display by the main pier before moving towards the reef. These two animals staying within the bay for a good part of the day. 1 Atlantic Grey Seal again by the main pier. Thursday 15 July. Land based sightings. Just the 1 Atlantic Grey Seal seen by the main pier during the afternoon Wednesday 14 July. Land based sightings. 10 Bottlenose Dolphins including 2 calf's seen in the bay during the 7hr survey. Mothers and calf's staying in the bay throughout the survey. Wednesday 14 July. Survey boat. 5 Atlantic Grey seals and 5 Bottlenose Dolphins which includes 1 juvenile. All Dolphins seen off New Quay Head, all seals seen between Trwyn Crou and Ynys-Lochtyn. Tuesday 13 July. Land based sightings 11 Bottlenose Dolphins and 1 Atlantic Grey Seal seen during a 7hr survey from the main pier. A juvenile with an adult was observed close to the pier, almost all animals seen were at a distance from the pier towards the reef marker. Tuesday 13 July. Survey boat. 2 Bottlenose Dolphins and 4 Atlantic Grey Seals. All seals seen were in the Trwyn Crou area, dolphins off New Quay Head Monday 12 July. Land based sighings. Mother and calf off the main pier, a another dolphin appeared later all foraging at depth and heading towards the reef. Before 10.30am another three bottlenose dolphins seen milling on the surface. Three more dolphins sighted out towards the reef, nothing further seen after 13.45pm. Monday 12 July. Survey boat. 10 Atlantic Grey Seals. All seals seen were in the Cwmtydu and Trwyn Crou area, all female with 1 pregnant. Sunday 11 July. Survey boat. 13 Bottlenose Dolphins and 6 Atlantic Grey Seals. All seals sightings within the Trwyn Crou - Cwmtydu area. All dolphin sightings between Cwmtydu and Ynys Lochtyn Sunday 11 July. Land based sightings 16 + Bottlenose Dolphins including 3 calf's with mothers seen between the fish factory and reef marker, all mingling and searching for prey. 1 Atlantic Grey Seal by the main pier. Saturday 10 July. Land based sighting. A very exciting observation period as we had our first shark sighting of the season (to be confirmed)at 9:00am in front of the harbour wall, the identification of the species had not yet been confirmed but it was thought to be about eight foot and it had small dark fins. Around the same time was a sighting of two adults and a new born calf bottlenose dolphin that were mingling at the surface about 200 metres from the harbour wall, they stayed there until about 9:45am. Mother and calf dolphin seen chasing prey near to Cwmtydu. Friday 09 July. Survey boat. Couple of short trips (2x1hr) to-day with 4 Atlantic Grey Seals seen all female, one on the rocks at Carreg Draenog another in the water at Castell Bach, two others seen again in the water between Castell Bach and Trwyn Crou. Friday 09 July. Land based sightings. Six Bottlenose Dolphins seen during a 6hr survey. First sightiings, three Bottlenose dolphins seen offshore from the factory at 10:30 onwards, repeatedly diving for long periods, another a short distance away. All other animals seen were around the fish factory area. Two Atlantic Grey Seal by the main pier during this watch. Thursday 08 July. Land based sightings Up to 18+ Bottlenose Dolphins seen to day from the observation point on the main pier over a 5hr period. Many animals feeding with long dives, a mother and calf sighted twice during the survey. Thursday 08 July. Survey boat. 25 Atlantic Grey Seals and 9 Bottlenose Dolphins sighted to day during a 4x2hr survey along the coast. Nearly all Seals seen were between Trwyn Crou and Ynys Lochtyn, Bottlenose Dolphins sighted between Carreg Draenog and New Quay Head Wednesday 07 July. Land based sightings. A small pod of Bottlenose Dolphin(6+) seen near the Fish Factory, later splitting into 2 groups with 1 group hading towards the reef. A further 2 Bottlenose Dolphins appeared off the reef marker by mid-morning. 1 male Atlantic Grey Seal by the main pier, later returning in the afternoon. Mid- afternoon 1 Bottlenose Dolphin seen foraging 200m off the main pier. Tuesday 06 July. Land based sightings. 6 Bottlenose Dolphins sighted during the days observation. All animals seen were between the Fish Factory and Reef Marker. Mid morning a mother and calf seen off the Head and staying within the bay for much of the day feeding. Tuesday 06 July. Further along towards Cwmtydu 1 mother and calf Dolphin seen. Friday 02 July. Land based sightings. 1 Harbour Porpoise seen between Fish Factory and reef Marker at around 0930am. First sightings of Bottlenose Dolphins was about mid-day in total around 12+ Dolphins(including 1 juvenile and 1 calf) in various size pods in the bay during the day. Last sighting of the day was at about 4.00pm. Thursday 01 July. Land based sightings. 2 Atlantic Grey Seals (female) close to the harbour wall, 5 bottlenose Dolphins including a calf foraging out towards the fish factory. These animals split into two groups with one group heading out towards the reef, one more Atlantic Grey Seal appeared towards the end of the survey. |
